A group of artists is targeting Ivanka Trump through social media, with some calling on her to take down their artwork off her walls.
Bloomberg reports that the Halt Action Group (HAG) made up of people associated with the art scene has initiated a campaign through Instagram called “Dear Ivanka.”
“Dear Ivanka, we need to talk about your dad,” the group’s website reads.
“Racism, anti-Semitism, misogyny, and homophobia are not acceptable anywhere—least of all in the White House.
“Steve Bannon has no place in the White House. Jeff Sessions has no place in the White House. Talk of a Muslim registry has no place in the White House.
“Hate has no place in the White House. We refuse to ‘wait and see.’ We look to you as the voice of reason.”
Trump has posted various pictures on her Instagram account (which has over 2 million followers) from her New York City apartment in which artists’ work can be seen in the background.
HAG has reached out to artists featured in Trump’s Instagram. The group asked the artists to join them and ask Ivanka “to answer for some of the hypocrisy she embodies,” one of the group’s founders art curator Allison Gingeras told Bloomberg.
Philadelphia artist Alex De Corte joined the cause writing, “Dear @Ivankatrump please get my work off of your walls. I am embarrassed to be seen with you.”
On the group’s Instagram feed they repost stock images of Trump making earnest appeals regarding the dire consequences of her father’s policies. “Topics addressed include global warming, universal health care, and contraception policy,” according to Bloomberg.
HAG staged a rally on November 28 outside the Puck building in Manhattan, where Trump and Kushner live, the Daily Mail reported.
Here is an example of one of the pictures posted by the HAG group going after Ivanka’s husband, Jared Kushner, for his work put together Donald Trump’s campaign data team, which “figured out how to sell racism, homophobia, xenophobia, and misogyny, with your Father as a mouthpiece” and accuses her and her Jewish husband of peddling in antisemitism too.
Dear @ivankatrump, We see how proud you are of your husband’s campaign management for your Daddy. Both inheritors of a real estate empire!!! We read his profile in Forbes. Frankly, between you and I, it’s terrifying. The campaign was well run, admittedly. As Jared himself says- he used start-up techniques and targeted advertisement through social media that no politician had used before. He figured out how to sell racism, homophobia, xenophobia, and misogyny, with your Father as a mouthpiece. Even antisemitism- and both of you are practicing Jews?! Hate was cheap, cheap and fast and easy to sell to drive the numbers where it counted most. We don’t know whether to cry or applaud. Every time you and he are asked about how this squares with your values (both of you were once avid democrats, you call yourself a feminist) you always say you don’t care what people say, you know the Donald, he’s family. What seems to count most is family, your family- stand by your man, stand by your numbers. It really is a family business built on the back of the American people!!! It’s hard for us to wrap our heads around. Do you believe in anything?
This one compares Ivanka to a “specter” and says her father should not be considering an ambassador to Israel who looks down on left-leaning Jews in America and supports building settlements on “Palestinian Land.”
Dear @ivankatrump, Today I saw this picture of you, your father and the nominee for the new ambassador to Israel. We are told that this nominee is fully supportive of building settlements on Palestinian land and that he “has likened left-leaning Jews in America to the Jews who aided the Nazis in the Holocaust.” Dear Ivanka, you appear in the picture to your father’s left. You are however not left-leaning, rather you recede behind the glare, behind the glass partition. You appear like a specter, both there and not there. You gaze downward, eyes almost closed, like a child who thinks she is invisible if she closes her eyes. But you are there. We see you. The nominee and your father are fully there, present as settlements are fully present on Palestinian land. While I can say that you seem to me like a specter, I cannot say very much about settlements without being a self-hating Jew who is akin to a Nazi collaborator according to your new nominee. Given all the swastikas that bloomed in your father’s wake, that is a bit rich. Dear Ivanka I see you through the glass, on the left of your father. The left leaning Jews who are now defined as would-be Nazis are out of the frame. I too am out of the frame, I write from out of the frame to you standing there with the right-leaning nominee who believes in settlements, who has declared that he does not believe in the future of a Palestinian state – a future that through him will remain nothing but a specter, while you gaze down, as always, right by your father’s side. As reported by Western Journalism, dress designer Sophie Theallet pre-emptively refused to use her artistic talents to dress soon-to-be first lady Melanie Trump due to her husband’s “rhetoric of racism, sexism, and xenophobia.” She also encouraged other designers to do the same.
