Kellyanne Conway Turns Down Communications Director Job In Trump Admin

Many assumed that Kellyanne Conway, the 49-year-old pollster who turned around Donald Trump’s campaign, would be a shoo-in for an administration position.

However, as it turns out, it seems she doesn’t want one.

According to the U.K. Daily Mail, Conway informed Trump’s people that she would not be accepting the role of communications director, the role she was most heavily rumored to accept.

A separate report in Politico indicated that Conway’s role would be more likely to be outside the administration.

“Kellyanne is more likely to be working on the outside and she knows that,” a transition aide said in response to comments the campaign manager made about Mitt Romney over the weekend, “so I think she feels a little more liberated about opining.”

While the controversy regarding Conway’s comments over the weekend — in which she questioned the loyalty of secretary of state short-lister Romney — might have been assumed to be behind this, a piece in The New York Times seems to give the lie to that idea.

“What some saw over the weekend as an act of political defiance by Ms. Conway — undermining a potential cabinet nominee — was seen by Mr. Trump as a demonstration of loyalty, according to people who had talked to him,” the Times reported. “Her criticism of Mr. Romney articulated a view her boss had at times expressed: that Mr. Romney had tried to ‘hurt’ him during the campaign and had yet to fully acknowledge it or apologize.”

“The president-elect would never need to turn on a TV station to find out how I feel about anything or anyone — he would already know it,” Conway told The Times. “It would be a mistake to think that I communicate with him through the TV.”

Kellyanne Conway’s outspokenness has made her a favorite of Trump Train riders, and one hopes she has some role in Trump’s presidency. However, it appears that role will not be in the administration — much to the shock of many Trump-watchers.
