Unless it’s a “Make American Great Again” hat, most of us don’t mix politics with fashion. So it was puzzling that Nordstrom stores and other retailers removed designer Ivanka Trump‘s products from their stores after her father, Donald Trump, was elected president.

Liberals were quick to call for a boycott of all things Trump after the 2016 presidential election, but it might have backfired in their faces. Apparently, the publicity the controversy generated was enough to boost the company to record sales, according to The Hill.

With enemies like that, who needs friends? Maybe a “liberal boycott” will become a sure path to success for retailers across the board.

In early February, retailer Nordstrom announced it would no longer carry Ivanka’s clothing line. Then, Neiman Marcus dropped her jewelry line from its website, according to The Hill.

These huge, struggling retailers should know that consumers don’t hesitate to buy elsewhere to get what they want, and one tiny misstep can send them out the door.

And out the door they went. Right into the waiting arms of online retailers who were more than happy to accommodate their needs. Isn’t that what business is about?

E-commerce shopping site Lyst reported a 346 percent increase in sales for the Ivanka Trump Collection between January and February, according to Refinery29. Online retail giant Amazon reported in February that Ivanka Trump’s perfume was its best seller, according to CNN.

“Since the beginning of February, they were some of the best performing weeks in the history of the brand,” said Abigail Klem, president of the Ivanka Trump clothing line. “For several different retailers, Ivanka Trump was a top performer online, and in some of the categories it was the best performance ever.”

Ivanka doesn’t even run the company anymore. She removed herself from its day-to-day operations prior to her father’s inauguration over ethics concerns. It seems that her absence has not deterred consumers from shopping her brand. (She’s still the company’s owner and receives income from it, according to The Washington Examiner.)

The kicker? Klem is a registered Democrat, according to New York magazine.

Clearly, Ivanka Trump doesn’t consider party lines when deciding what’s best for her company. If only Democrats could do the same when deciding how to run our country.
