Israel Suspends Working Ties With List Of Countries Who Went Against Them In U.N. Vote

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has ordered Israel’s foreign ministry to “temporarily limit all working ties” with the embassies of the 12 United Nations Security Council members with which Israel has diplomatic relations that voted against Israel on Security Council Resolution 2334, according to CNN.

The resolution passed unanimously on Friday, 14-0, with the United States abstaining. The resolution specifically condemned Israeli settlements in allegedly Palestinian territory that Israel has occupied since 1967, according to the New York Daily News.

The 12 members of the council whose Israeli embassies were being severely limited were Angola, Britain, China, Egypt, France, Japan, New Zealand, Russia, Senegal, Spain, Ukraine and Uruguay, according to CNN.,

President-elect Donald Trump, a firm supporter of Netanyahu, was predictably angry about the vote, denouncing the UN on Twitter:

“The United Nations has such great potential but right now it is just a club for people to get together, talk and have a good time. So sad!” he Tweeted Monday.

The resolution carried with it no immediate repercussions for Israel, but it did attack the legitimacy of a nation that has been struggling for its very existence since 1948.

Netanyahu believed that the resolution was largely the fault of the United States.

His spokesman, David Keyes, reportedly said, “This was a deliberate push by the United States and in fact they helped create the resolution in the first place.”

Netanyahu has also reportedly recalled ambassadors working in 10 of the countries involved in the diplomatic offensive against Israel.

One thing is certain — at least one country has a leader willing to put his nation first.
