As ICE Raids Begin Parents Shocked by Immigrants Rights Fliers Children Bring Home From School

President Donald Trump made it incredibly clear on the campaign trail that there would be little toleration for illegal immigration under his administration, and almost like clockwork, targeted raids by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents have begun taking place around the country to detain and deport illegals with criminal convictions.

As could be expected, the progressive left has pitched yet another fit over this policy and is working to obstruct and thwart its application in any way possible, including instructing students in Texas on how to resist such law enforcement efforts, according to the San Antonio Express-News.

There were reports out of the Austin area of school teachers, in conjunction with the teachers and school employees union Education Austin, handing out fliers of information to students and parents instructing them on what to do if approached by ICE officials. Needless to say, cooperation was not one of the recommendations.

Instead, fliers with instructions in both English and Spanish have turned up that expressly instruct students to refuse to answer any questions, refuse to sign any documents demand to immediately speak with an attorney. Here’s one such flier from a group called  Texas Here To Stay.

The Austin American-Statesman reported that students at the International High School in East Austin received some of the flyers, though it was unclear if those fliers had been distributed by teachers and, if so, if that distribution occurred during school hours.

The school district did not respond to requests for comment about whether the administration was aware or approved of the information being handed out to students on school property.

Schools are required by federal law to provide an education to any enrolled student regardless of immigration status, and though it is unclear how many students in the Austin district are in the country illegally, there are an estimated 30,000 students learning English as a second language and some 1,000 students that are part of the federal refugee program.

The left-wing groups behind the fliers insist there is no political motivation to their effort, merely a desire to inform students and parents of their rights via the fliers and special “workshop” sessions.

While we here at Conservative Tribune are all for people knowing and exercising their rights, there are a couple of things that must first be pointed out, such as the obvious fact that, if the students and their parents are in the country legally and have committed no additional crimes, they have absolutely nothing to worry about. If they aren’t in the country legally, well then, those “rights” for citizens and legal residents don’t necessarily always apply as some may think.

Perhaps more importantly, though, is that this effort appears to be supported and pressed by school teachers on school property, presumably during school hours even, actions which could conceivably be viewed as being in conflict with the federal tax dollars the district receives and state tax dollars that pay the salaries of the teachers and administrators.
