Reality television shows cover an amazing range of scenarios that can be dangerous and foolish. A new Russian television series looks to combine both of those in a survival-based show that takes place in Siberia where just about anything goes.
The show is a 9-month Siberian survival test in which participants will be left in a remote section of the Siberian tundra, where temperatures can reach minus-40 degrees Celsius in the winter.
The project will follow 30 male and female contestants — 15 of each being ideal — 24 hours a day, seven days a week, as they attempt to stay alive in a wilderness populated with bears and wolves.
The contest, “Game2: Winter,” was created by entrepreneur Yevgeny Pyatkovsky, The Siberian Times reported.
Producers of the show claim that “everything is allowed” — including, according to The Times “rape” and “murder.”
However, participants will be cautioned that the police will come and take them away if contestants actually commit crimes.
“We are on the territory of Russia, and obey the laws of the Russian Federation,” Pyatkovsky said. He also said that all participants will have to sign a release of liability in the case they become injured or even die.
There will be no crew to film the participants. Instead, thousands of cameras will be dispersed around the tundra where the competition will take place. Participants will also carry portable cameras with rechargeable batteries, Pyatkovsky said.
He added that they must also be sane.
Many would think that considering such a competition would be the anything but sane.
The extreme contest is scheduled to begin on July 1, 2017, and the goal is to survive until April 1, 2018. Contestants will receive training and be allowed to carry about 220 pounds of equipment. They can form teams or try to survive alone, the BBC reported.
Contestants must also pay around $165,000 to participate. If they win, they could be looking at a $1,605,487.00 payout. Should there be more than one winner, the prize money will be shared.
Such an extreme competition is just the latest example of how sick our entertainment culture has become.
