Government watchdog group Judicial Watch reported that the Department of Homeland Security practically gave secure information to groups of Somalis during tours in some of America’s major airports.
Information from a Freedom of Information Act request filed in May by Judicial Watch revealed that group of Somalis were given “community engagement tours” that included briefings on security, secondary screening procedures, baggage-screening procedures and other airport systems.
The tours were reportedly given earlier this year in February and also in 2014 and 2015. According to the report, the tours occurred in secure areas in airports in Columbus, Ohio, as well as in Los Angeles and Minneapolis.
Three of the individuals invited had, at one time, been under investigation, and another was under active investigation.
The tour briefings included information that was so sensitive that the agency redacted portions of the records. In one instance, Customs and Border Protection provided Judicial Watch with an agenda of one of the tours with some of the information redacted because the material that was too “law-enforcement sensitive.”
However, the information was provided in full to the Somali group.
“Logically, information that is too sensitive to provide to Judicial Watch and the public should not have been given to a ‘community engagement tour,’” Judicial Watch President Tom Litton said.
“The U.S. government has been aware for years that Minnesota is a hotbed of Somali terrorist-cell activity. The behind-the-scenes tours and security briefings of the Minneapolis airport very well could have created a threat to public safety,” Litton added.
It certainly could have. Especially when a man charged with attempting to join the Islamic State group was invited to one of these tours with about 50 imams and other members of the Muslim community, according to the Minneapolis Star Tribune. The Star reported that he was later “uninvited” from the tour, but never bothered to go into how he, and the others, had come to be invited in the first place.
It’s incredible that our government gives “community engagement tours” and apparently hands out sensitive information like candy.
This is just more proof that President Barack Obama has never cared for the security of the American people, and more of a reason to celebrate the fact that he will be leaving the White House soon.
