Running for mayor implies booting incumbent Mayor Bill de Blasio, the Democrat currently serving in the Big Apple.
The most frustrating part is that she would likely trounce him and almost certainly win.
Democrat consultant Hank Sheinkopf told The Daily Caller, “She is wildly popular among New Yorkers — so much so that were she to file, de Blasio would have to file his retirement papers on the same day.”
Having a Clinton run for the mayoralty of New York would, at the very least, give her a nice consolation prize after losing her bid for the presidency of the United States of America.
The New York Post’s reaction to the possibility of Clinton’s mayoral gambit was, well, frightening:
“Yes, we were highly critical of Hillary Clinton in the runup to Election Day,” the Post said. “But that was the race for the White House, where she offered a program far to the left of the nation’s center.
“Not so in New York, where she’d be dead-center in the city’s Democratic majority. Progressive, but not obsessed with proving it — nor with trying to use the mayoralty to become a national leader. Passionate for social justice, but not an ideologue who’ll stick by homeless or affordable-housing policies that are clearly failing.”
Clinton served as a senator for New York for eight years.
