Former Democrat presidential nominee Hillary Clinton’s top aide Huma Abedin and Abedin’s estranged husband, former Democrat Rep. Anthony Weiner, are apparently trying to work on their marriage, according to the New York Post.
But according to the Post, another source who said that the couple’s breakup was “more for optics for the campaign and (under) pressure from Hillary’s camp” than out of Abedin’s frustration with her husband’s behavior in the first place.
The couple separated last fall after it was reported that Weiner sent an explicit photo of himself to a woman while lying in bed with his young son, followed by allegations that he had sent inappropriate messages to an underage girl, according to New York Magazine.
His laptop was seized as part of the FBI’s investigation into his relationship with the underage girl. The laptop also allegedly contained emails regarding the State Department.
Weiner resigned from Congress in 2011 when it was discovered that he had sent indecent pictures to a college student. In 2013, he was caught “sexting” under the nickname Carlos Danger.
They say love is blind, and Abedin’s willingness to work things out seems to prove it.
“Huma has been working hard on her relationship with Anthony,” a source close Abedin said. “He has been spending 80 to 90 percent of his time at the (Irving Place apartment) they share … If there is a disagreement, he goes to his mother’s apartment in Brooklyn.”
The source said that both sides of the family are hoping the two can reconcile.
Weiner sought outpatient treatment for his sex addiction last fall.
We’re all for any couple working on their marriage, even if it’s somewhat unbelievable that after so many indiscretions and betrayals, Abedin would consider taking Weiner back. If reports are true, the couple are still devoted to each other and they blame the “pressures of the campaign and presidential race and him drifting off into obscurity” for his latest relapse.
And if it’s true that the split was largely caused by concerns on the part of Hillary Clinton’s failed campaign, well, that’s just one more reason to be glad she didn’t win … as if we needed another one.
