It is no secret that religion-hating atheist groups have been doing anything and everything they can to remove religion, mostly Christianity, from the public sphere. Usually, they cite the need for a separation between church and state, a notion they seem not to fully understand.

This is typically done using intimidation tactics, such as holding the threat of expensive lawsuits and bad PR above the heads of institutions and organizations that have nominally paid tribute to the religious values our country has historically embraced.

Thus it was no surprise that the Freedom Foundation for Separation of Church and State pressured an Ohio high school to remove recitation of the Lord’s Prayer from its graduation ceremony, a tradition the school has followed for more than 70 years, according to CBN News.

The East Liverpool High School’s choir typically sang the Lord’s Prayer to start the ceremony, but after receiving threats of a lawsuit from the atheist group, the school’s administrators decided to submit to the demands and cancel the prayer.

“We said, ‘OK, we just won’t do it anymore.’ It was a decision made because we don’t have a lot of money and we’d rather hire teachers than pay lawyers,” school board President Larry Walton told CBN. “It’s a war we can’t win.”

That decision didn’t sit well with the 2016 graduating class though, or valedictorian Jonathan Montgomery, who defied the administrators by leading his fellow graduates in reciting the prayer.

Though he may have been scolded afterwards, his action was met at the time with resounding cheers and a standing ovation from the crowd.

This is an excellent response to the demands of the Christian-hating atheists, as the students themselves took the initiative to defy their demands and continue to carry on with a long-standing tradition that few, if any, had a real problem with.
