Melanie Nash thought, when she was digging up her dead father, she would be getting a windfall of cash. Instead, all the bad seed got was a bottle of Smirnoff and a pack of smokes.
The New Hampshire woman thought that her sister, Susie Nash, had hidden the real will from her in her father’s coffin.
However, the only thing inside the casket that would be of any earthly use was a bottle of vodka and a pack of cigarettes.
Melanie Nash told authorities that she had received nothing in her father’s will, and she was determined to find out where her sister had hidden the actual will.
“All this was done for the right reasons and I know my father would be okay with it,” the 53-year-old Nash told authorities when asked about her motive. “What we all did was to dig up my father’s coffin, Eddie Nash, looking for documents. We did it with respect.”
Yeah, I don’t think that one’s going to hold up in court.
Susie Nash insists that there was only one will which everyone in the family knew about. That had been drawn up in 1995, nine years before Eddie Nash died of a heart attack.
I’m not quite sure in what universe a child who was trying to hide a secret will would do so in her father’s casket, as opposed to, say, burning it. Or flushing it down the toilet. Or doing anything else with it.
Nash was scheduled to go on trial for her “National Treasure”-like stunt later in March, but she wisely decided to plead guilty to a host of charges, including criminal mischief, interference with a cemetery, conspiracy and abuse of a corpse.
Meanwhile, Susie Nash says the incident has shaken her, even after her father’s reburial (H/T Mad World News).
“It still leaves an impact on you,” she said. “Every time I visit the cemetery, I will be thinking of this.”
