Gabriela Brandão, a freelance makeup artist from Florianópolis, Brazil, discovered something strange about her daughter’s great-grandmother’s Saint Anthony figurine.
Brandão knew that her daughter’s great-grandmother had been praying to Saint Anthony for years, however when she took a look at the figurine the woman prayed to, she realized something wasn’t quite right.
Brandão then performed a Google search, looking for the figure. When she found an exact match, she knew her gut instinct was correct. The image of the figurine was not listed under “Saint Anthony,” but rather “Elrond” from “The Lord of The Rings.”
I mean, Hugo Weaving is a great actor, but I’m sure that qualifies him for sainthood.
Brandão posted the story and some photos onto Facebook last week, where it is making the rounds and getting tons of laughs. “I never expected any of this to happen, it’s crazy, but it’s the funniest thing that ever happened to me.” Brandão said.
The captions on the photos translate to, “My daughter’s great-grandmother prays to this figure of Saint Anthony every day, but looking more closely …” Then she made the big reveal.
Since relaying the discovery to the great-grandmother, the matriarch has ceased praying to that particular figurine.
Brandão told BuzzFeed that “We tried to explain right away but she didn’t understand at first. The next day we explained again and she understood and we got her a new figure of Saint Anthony.”
Saint Anthony is considered the patron saint of lost things.
Gabriela’s daughter’s great-grandmother may have been deifying a “Lord of The Rings” collectors item, but we like to think that God knew what she meant.
