The Rev. Franklin Graham, who was among the clergy who closed out Friday’s inauguration of President Donald Trump, took a moment to point out Trump’s presidency was already being blessed.

Standing on the Capitol steps after Trump finished his inaugural address, Graham spoke directly to the president before he read a passage from the Bible.

“Mr. President, in the Bible, rain is a sign of God’s blessing and it started to rain, Mr. President, when you came to the platform and it’s my prayer that God will bless you, your family, your administration and may he bless America.”

Graham then read a passage from 1 Timothy 2.

“I urge then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession, and thanksgiving be made for all people, for kings for all who those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness,” Graham read.

“This is good, and it pleases God our Savior, who wants all people to be saved and come to a knowledge of the truth for there is one God and one mediator between God and mankind — the man Christ Jesus who gave himself as a ransom for all people,” the Reverend continued.

“Now to the King Eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, the honor and glory forever in Jesus name, Amen,” Graham said in closing.

Although the ceremony featured remarks from several members of the clergy, Trump also invoked God in his speech.

“The Bible tells us how good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity. We must speak our minds openly, debate our disagreements honestly, but always pursue solidarity. When America is united, America is totally unstoppable,” Trump said.

“There should be no fear. We are protected and we will always be protected. We will be protected by the great men and women of our military and law enforcement. And most importantly, we will be protected by God,” said the new president.

Trump also noted in his address that all Americans are children of God.

“And whether a child is born in the urban sprawl of Detroit or the windswept plains of Nebraska, they look up at the same night sky, they fill their heart with the same dreams and they are infused with the breath of life by the same Almighty Creator,” Trump said.

For the sake of their nation, Graham has frequently urged Americans to turn to God in prayer.

“Now is the time to come together in unity and work together. Our nation has so many problems that need fixing. Even more important are the spiritual needs of our country. Whether we are rich or poor, without Jesus Christ we are the most desperately in need, the poorest of the poor. We cannot ignore His hand and His supreme authority,” he has said.

“One thing is for sure, we need to pray for our new president, vice president, and our other leaders every day—whether we agree with them or not,” he said. “They need God’s help and direction. It is my prayer that we will truly be ‘one nation under God.’”
