Ever since Nov. 8, pundits have been looking for an explanation for President-elect Donald Trump’s stunning defeat of former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in the general election.

While most ordinary Americans could tell you why Trump won, many liberals feel the need to find an alternative explanation. Evangelical preacher Franklin Graham has come up with his own explanation that will undoubtedly leave liberals steamed, Religion News Service reported.

Graham believes that God intervened in the election on behalf of Trump.

“I think maybe God has allowed Donald Trump to win this election to protect this nation for the next few years by giving maybe an opportunity to have some good judges,” Graham stated in an interview with Religion News Service.

That certainly is a different theory.

“For these (swing) states to go the way they did, in my opinion, I think it was the hand of God,” he continued. “It wasn’t hacking. It wasn’t Wiki-leaky or whatever. It was God, in my opinion, and I believe His hand was at work, and I think He’s given Christians an opportunity.”

Many evangelical Christians did indeed see the Trump candidacy as the last chance this nation had. With the Supreme Court at stake, that meant that whoever would be appointed by a new president could tip the balance of power on the court.

Many religious Americans believed that this future Supreme Court justice would be the difference between the religious liberty envisioned by the Founders and a definite lack of religious liberty envisioned by modern Democrats.

We can’t say for certain whether God personally intervened to help Trump win. What we can say is that Trump had a message of hope for the future that resonated with millions of Americans.

Even if God didn’t help Trump win, we can certainly hope that he will help Trump throughout these next four years to be a wise leader who will take steps to further the greatness of this country.

After all, the Bible does say that our leaders are “God’s servants for our good.”
