A high-level whistleblower at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration recently disclosed that the organization published falsified data in a 2015 climate change report to influence world leaders who met at the United Nations climate conference in Paris in the same year.
John Bates, a top NOAA scientist, said in an interview with the U.K. Daily Mail that the agency violated its integrity when it claimed that a slowdown in global warming since 1998 never existed and that world temperatures had been increasing faster than scientists expected.
The NOAA 2015 report, titled “Possible Artifacts of Data Biases in the Recent Global Surface Warming Hiatus,” was based on two new sets of temperature data that were never subjected to the organization’s evaluation process, a process Bates devised.
The scientist said he objected to the report because of the faulty data, but that his objections were overridden by his superiors in what he described as a “blatant attempt to intensify the impact” of the report.
The slowdown was revealed in 2013 by U.N. scientists who noted that from 1998 to 2014 there was no significant rise in global average temperatures.
Bates, who retired last year as principal scientist of the National Climatic Data Center, also wrote a piece for the blog Climate Etc., accusing the lead author of the 2015 NOAA report, Thomas Karl, of trying to cover up the slowdown with “flagrant manipulation of scientific integrity guidelines and scientific publication standards.”
The accusation that NOAA deceived the public with misleading information shouldn’t surprise anyone. It has long been suspected the data related to climate change have been manipulated to help fuel the environmental movement, and Bates’ claims only add more evidence that global warming is a myth perpetuated by liberals to further their agenda and extend control over our lives.
