President Donald Trump was right about the need for America to protect itself from its southern neighbors, though his exact statement regarding this need may have been been a smidgen off.
Referring to the problem of illegal immigration at the outset of his presidential campaign two years ago, Trump stated that Mexico was “not sending their best.” This was correct.
However, what the then-GOP primary candidate failed to mention at the time was that Mexico was also not nominating its best to serve in its government.
Case in point: Edgar Veytia, the attorney general of the Mexican state of Nayarit, has been arrested by U.S. authorities over “his involvement in the nation’s massive illegal drug trade,” according to the Los Angeles Times.
“Veytia, 46, was arrested at the U.S.-Mexico border Monday in San Diego on a federal indictment from New York alleging that he has conspired to smuggle heroin, cocaine and methamphetamine to the United States since 2013 — the year he became the top law enforcement official in Nayarit state,” The Times reported.
The paper added that his arrest was “just (the) latest sign that official corruption continues to debilitate Mexico’s government.”
Mexico has repeatedly been named one of the most corrupt countries in the world as thanks to its criminal cartels, bribery and media manipulation, as Business Insider reported last year. In 2014, for instance, corrupt police officials in the small town of Iguala abducted 43 poor students and murdered every last one of them, according to Forbes.
Can you imagine something so vile ever occurring in the United States? Of course not, because though America has its own fair share of problems, it is for the most part a nation governed by laws — one that would, ideally, like to stay that way.
But for the United States to remain safe, it must stay committed to law, order and justice, which therefore means it must never tolerate illegal immigration, no matter what absurd excuses the maniacal left invents.
