The left has tried to blame so-called fake news for the stunning losses the Democrats were handed on Nov. 8, but even Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg called foul on the suggestion.
Sandberg agreed with Facebook Chairman and CEO Mark Zuckerberg during an interview with Savannah Guthrie Thursday on the “Today” show that fake news did not change the results of the election.
“There have been claims that it swayed the election, and we don’t think it swayed the election, but we take that responsibility really seriously,” Sandberg said. “We’re looking at things, like working with third parties, helping to label false news, doing the things we can do to make it clearer what’s a hoax on Facebook.”
“We’ve been working on this for a long time, and we’ve taken important steps, but there’s a lot more to do,” Sandberg added. “We know that people don’t want to see hoaxes on Facebook, and we don’t want to see hoaxes on Facebook. And so we’re working on it because misinformation is something we take seriously and something we’re going to continue to iterate on the service.”
The left should come to terms with the fact that their ideology was roundly repudiated on Nov. 8 and work to fix their faulty arguments instead of blaming others.
Then again, that wouldn’t help them gain power and control, so something so reasonable is likely never going to happen.
And we’re probably OK with that.
