An elderly woman relied on her quick thinking to stave off a sexual attack, proving she wasn’t the weak target the assailant thought she would be.
Helen Reynolds, 88, of Parkesburg, Pensylvania, told KMOV that a man posing as an apartment complex worker forced his way into her apartment on Feb. 17. After going through her purse and taking $40, he duct-taped her hands and face and was preparing to sexually assault her.
Reynolds wasn’t going to be a victim.
First she asked him if he would treat his mother like he was treating her. When that didn’t work, she kicked him in the crotch.
“Maybe I really hurt him,” Reynolds said, according to CBS Philly. “I don’t know and I really don’t care.”
Then she thought of a brilliant thing to say that made the would-be rapist think twice.
Despite the tape on her face, she managed to get the words out.
“‘That’s when I said, ‘I have HIV and my husband died from it,’ which is a lie,” she explained.
After hearing that, the would-be rapist taped her feet together and left the room.
“I have nothing good to say about him. Nothing at all,” she told WPVI. “Put him in jail, and leave the sucker there.”
No arrests or charges had been made in connection with Reynolds’ attack, which was reportedly one of several similar home invasions recently in Chester County.

Reynolds proved that you should always try to think your way out of a bad situation. You never really know what you might say that could change a criminal’s mind.
And it also doesn’t hurt to give an attacker a swift kick in the groin.
