They Don’t Share One Drop of Blood. But Their Father-Daughter Bond Will Leave You Melting

There are few things as adorable as a dad doting on his baby. The cuteness factor is magnified tenfold when the baby is a little girl and the dad is a tough military man.

Shane Smith serves as another perfect example of a loving dad. He snuggles with her, keeps her calm, challenges her, and loves her.

In the photo below, he is comforting his child at two in the morning because he’d been gone for two weeks and she was inconsolable. He raced over at an ungodly hour because his baby needed him.

He proves something extremely important: that love is stronger than blood.

Shane Smith met and fell in love with a woman named Karisa. When they first met, Karisa had a 9-month-old baby, and it didn’t take long before Smith fell in love with her, too.

Karisa couldn’t contain her pride for either one of her two loves, so she had to write a post about how awesome their bond was. “They aren’t related by blood, but they are daddy and daughter,” she revealed.

“My husband goes above and beyond to take care of her as his own. When she cries, he’s there. When she needs him, he’s there.”

One of the most important takeaways? “We don’t use the term ‘step father.’ He is her father.” And what is a father if not exactly what Shane is?

A father is not determined by lineage or biology. A father is created through love for a child, regardless of who is related to whom. It’s not about blood. It’s about loyalty, care, and kindness.

Though Shane and Karisa have now also had a child of their own, there’s no favoritism. As Karisa writes, “They are two peas in a pod and the love of a father runs deep. So deep, he has decided to adopt her and the adoption is in process. They will soon be ‘officially’ daddy and daughter.”

A signed piece of paper can’t make their love any more real than it already is. The paper makes it official, but it’s clear they’ve been father and daughter since Shane first met her years ago.
