In a series of tweets published to Twitter Thursday morning, President-elect Donald Trump confidently announced that he could have and would have easily won the popular vote in the 2016 election had that been the ultimate goal, which of course it was not.

“I would have done even better in the election, if that is possible, if the winner was based on popular vote — but would campaign differently,” he wrote.

He may very well have been right. During his presidential campaign, he barely visited California and New York, two states where a majority of citizens have traditionally voted for the Democrat candidate, thus making it largely pointless for Republicans to campaign there.

In fact, had both states not been counted in the popular vote, he would have won the popular vote by at least three million ballots, according to Epoch Times.

But because the popular vote was irrelevant, Trump made nary an effort to persuade voters in those states and thus lost by a large majority there. In California, for instance, he obtained only 3.5 million votes versus failed Democrat presidential nominee Hillary Clinton’s 6.6 million, according to The New York Times.

But consider what might have happened had the election been based on the popular vote and Trump had therefore spent much more time speaking with these states’ respective voters. The election could have and would have likely turned out very differently.

Continuing his tweets, Trump also noted, “Campaigning to win the Electoral College is much more difficult & sophisticated than the popular vote. Hillary focused on the wrong states!”

Exactly. She failed to see the risk in states like Pennsylvania and Michigan that have traditionally voted Democrat but were by Trump’s campaign promises this year. Big mistake.

Trump also chided the mainstream media for refusing to discuss the fact that he had spent less money to win than Clinton had spent to lose.

These were all great points, and if liberals had any sense, they would take them to heart. But because liberals live in a senseless echo chamber, very little will likely be learned from the wisdom of our future president.
