Fox News constantly dominates its cable news competition for almost every news hour, thanks to hard-hitting programs like “The Five,” “Special Report,” “Hannity” and “The O’Reilly Factor.”
Beckel was fired back in June 2015 after Bill Shine, who at the time was the executive vice president of programming, claimed that Fox News had come to the “end of the road” with Beckel.
“We tried to work with Bob for months, but we couldn’t hold ‘The Five’ hostage to one man’s personal issues. He took tremendous advantage of our generosity, empathy and goodwill and we simply came to the end of the road with him,” Shine’s statement read.
Beckel had undergone major back surgery in early 2015. In May, Fox News released a statement announcing that Beckel had entered rehab for his addiction to prescription pain medication after his surgery.
Since Beckel’s departure, Shine has been promoted to co-president of Fox News with even more authority than he had before, so the “end of the road” appears to have just been a temporary roadblock.
Fox News reported that current co-host Juan Williams will still appear on various Fox News shows, as well as “The Five” from time to time.
You can watch Beckel’s return here:
Since 2015, Beckel worked for CNN for a little bit, but now he is right back where he belongs. Though he could be outrageous at times, Beckel was one of the more reasonable liberals out there. He was even willing to admit that Obama was wrong from time to time.
Having one liberal on “The Five” always made for some good afternoon entertainment, and now that Beckel is back in his chair, the good times can continue to roll on.
Hopefully, Beckel remains well and is willing to keep an open mind (or at least somewhat open) for the next four years of the Trump administration.
