DEVELOPING: China Demands North Korea Stop Testing Missiles

China Demands North Korea Stop Testing Missiles

After yet another missile test carried out by North Korea on Monday, Chinese officials have confronted the Kim regime, demanding that they stop the provocative testing program.

According to the BBC, Monday’s missile tests involved four intermediate-range ballistic missiles, three of which fell into the Sea of Japan. Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe called the missile tests “a new stage of threat.”

The Washington Post reported that the tests were a trial run for hitting American bases in Japan.

The United Nations has banned North Korea from carrying out any sort of nuclear or missile test, but China — which shares a border with North Korea and arguably has more influence over it than any other country — has been reluctant to intervene.

That changed on Tuesday when Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi demanded that North Korea stop missile tests. According to CNBC, Yi also demanded that the United States and South Korea stop joint military drills — large-scale, annual exercises neither country is likely to stop anytime soon.

The BBC reported that Wang described the situation as “two accelerating trains, coming toward each other with neither side willing to give way.”

“Are the two sides really ready for a head-on collision?” he said.

Part of the controversy was over the United State’s Terminal High-Altitude Area Defense system, a missile defense system being moved into South Korea in the wake of a series of missile tests by the North Koreans. The first portions of the system were moved into South Korea on Monday, the same day the missile test took place.

Whatever the case, it’s looking more and more like Kim Jong Un isn’t going to get away with this one the same way that he did under the Obama administration. Between China and the Trump administration, it’s becoming clear that the international community is at its wits’ end with the crazy-haired communist and his constant provocations.
