Denzel Washington Says He Is Here To Serve God And His Family

Actor? Check. Director? Check. Producer? Check. Oscar winner? Double check. Now Denzel Washington has announced his most important accomplishment to date,CNS News reported.

“I’m in the service business now,” Washington told T.D. Jakes on Dec. 23. “I’m here to serve God, I’m here to serve my family.”

Washington is promoting his new film “Fences” and has used his very public platform several times recently to promote traditional conservative values. He made it clear that work comes last, telling The U.K. Guardian, “I’d rather leave this earth as a successful parent than a successful actor.”

Clearly, Washington has his priorities straight. God first, then family, then work. He is passionate and tremendously productive in his work, so it is especially inspiring to know that God and family are even higher on the list.

Washington’s father was a preacher, and he has said several times that this might be his next calling. The pulpit could certainly do worse.

In his 2015 commencement speech at Dillard University, Washington told graduates, “Put God first in everything you do,” according to Fox News.

“I pray that you put your slippers way under your bed tonight, so that when you wake up in the morning you have to get on your knees to reach them. And while you’re down there, say thank you,” he continued.

Imagine if every American, of every faith, had the same mentality. First, God and all that comes with faith: kindness, compassion and humility. Second, devotion to serving our families. And last, a passion for making a difference in the world through our vocations.

What a very different country we would have.

Denzel Washington is an example for all of us to aspire to. Let’s work to make 2017 that kind of a year.
