De Blasio Blames Trumps Rhetoric For NYC Hate Crime

If you thought it would be hard for New York’s Mayor Bill de Blasio to go any lower, you may be impressed — and disgusted — that he managed to do it: He’s actually blamed the racially motivated murder of a black man on President Donald Trump.

During a Friday interview on WNYC-FM, de Blasio said that Trump had created a “dynamic of hatred” that led to the murder of 66-year-old Timothy Caughman by a white supremacist who traveled to New York City specifically to kill a black man, according to The Daily Caller.

According to The New York Times, 28-year-old James Harris Jackson of Baltimore stabbed Caughman to death last Wednesday with a sword.

“The challenge here is that a dynamic of hatred has been growing in this country over the last year or more, particularly come out in the open, is clearly related to the rhetoric of Donald Trump and even other candidates during the presidential election that have unleashed forces of hate all over the country,” de Blasio reportedly said. “An atmosphere of hate has been created.”

It didn’t take long for the Trump administration to respond to Mayor de Blasio’s sick claim.

“The president has repeatedly condemned any racially or religiously motivated act of violence and to suggest anything different is dishonest and misleading,” White House spokeswoman Sarah Sanders said in a statement to Politico.

What James Harris Jackson is accused of doing was sick beyond words, and it is our perfervid hope that anyone guilty of such a crime rots in prison for a very long time. I have no doubt that the president and virtually all his supporters hopes the same thing.

Nothing in Trump’s “rhetoric” could have possibly convinced Jackson to commit the crime. Nothing in Trump’s “rhetoric” could have convinced anyone he would have approved of such horrific racism. To imply anything else is to score political points off of tragedy — which, of course, is exactly what de Blasio did.

What de Blasio did added to the horrific nature of the situation. To blame anyone but Jackson and whatever sick white supremacists aided and abetted him is divisiveness of the worst sort.

Sadly, divisiveness is Bill de Blasio’s stock-in-trade.
