A Facebook page simply called “Police Officers” shares inspiring stories about the dedicated men and women who work to keep us safe. Some of the posts are humorous, while others are more heartfelt.
It was an anonymous police officer’s photos, however, that have caught the attention of thousands on social media. It all began after the officer and their partner went to the wrong address.
Something they believe was meant to be. So do we.
In the post, the officer explains that when they arrived at the location, they stumbled upon this beautiful Christmas tree. The tree was adorned with ornaments of blue and silver.
Upon closer inspection, they discovered the ornaments included the names of officers that had been killed in the line of duty in 2016. Not only did it include humans, but the names of K-9 officers on the smaller of the ornaments as well.
Although the officer’s post was anonymous, a quick search on google based up on the legible names reveals that this took place in Michigan. Officer Collin Rose was a Sergeant for the Wayne State University Police and was killed in the line of duty on Nov. 23, 2016.
Another name from the tree was Detroit Sergeant Kenneth Steil, who was promoted to captain at his funeral. He was killed in the line of duty on Sept. 17, 2016.
The officer who shared the photos of the tree wrote about the owner, “She calls it a ‘Tree of Honor’ guess our paths were meant to cross since she just finished it last night.” What a wonderful tribute!
Perhaps she was inspired by a similar tree, shared by the Urbandale Police Department. The tree was originally a part of the Festival of Trees in Des Moines but later given to the department.
The tree skirt included names and badge numbers of five fallen officers that were killed in Iowa in 2016. Another beautiful tribute to the officers that risk their lives for our safety each day.
