Cops Hit Wrong Address, Find “Honor Tree” Memorializing Fallen Officers

When two police officers recently arrived at what they later realized was the wrong address, they discovered a Christmas tree with decorations that both warmed the heart and induced a chill because they reflected the number of cops who had lost their lives in the line of duty this year.

“Partner and I accidentally went to the wrong address today on a run and stumbled across this beautiful tree,” one the cops reportedly wrote to the “Ohio Goes Blue” Facebook page. “The owner took the time to write down every officer killed in the line of duty this year and place it on the tree.”

“Not only did she do all the humans but she included all the K9s on the small ornaments,” the email continued. “She calls it the ‘Tree of Honor.’ Guess our paths were meant to cross since she just finished it last night.”

As lovely and simply amazing as this tree was, however, it was not alone in this sometimes-dismal world of ours.

According to WAGA, the Cedartown Police Department in Georgia has set up a similar tree featuring the photos, names and departments of every officer killed in the line of duty this year.

“Every one of these is a person with a real life story, a family, not just a badge,” local police Chief Jamie Newsome told the station, adding that he wanted to let the families of these officers know that they were not forgotten.

Kudos to both the Cedartown Police Department and the unnamed civilian mentioned earlier for looking beyond themselves this Christmas season and paying tribute to the oftentimes forgotten — and sometimes even discounted — men and women who lost their lives while serving their communities.
