Conservative Media Outlets Clash At White House Briefing

The daily press briefings at the White House have known to become a bit combative in recent months, but recently, it was members of the media themselves doing some combat.

White House Correspondent Lucian B. Wintrich of The Gateway Pundit clashed with Fox News Radio correspondent Jon Decker at Friday’s White House briefing.

A reporter for BuzzFeed described what he saw.

Decker also sent an email to all reporters of the accredited White House press corps notifying them that Gateway Pundit would be represented at the briefing.

“Earlier today I had a conversation with a representative from the online publication Gateway Pundit,” Decker said in a statement. “The conversation was straightforward and direct.”

Wintrich described the confrontation in a much different light.

“(Decker) accosted me. He pushed me in the back room and then grabbed my arm,” Wintrich said. “He started screaming to the entire press room that I’m a Nazi and The Gateway Pundit is a white supremacist publication.”

A representative for Fox News media relations told Politico that Decker was referencing past tweets from Wintrich that Decker viewed as discriminatory.

Decker denied he accosted Wintrich.

“At no time did I accost or assault this individual,” Wintrich said. “More than a dozen witnesses will attest to this fact.”

Wintrich said he was “shaken” by the incident and was considering legal action.

Some members of the press who were at the briefing thanked Decker for his actions.

“Props to Jon Decker for speaking up in the press room. It would be much harder for a minority reporter to speak up like he did,” said an unidentified member of the White House Correspondents Association. “As a member of the WHCA board and as a white man, him standing up and saying that meant a lot to reporters in the room.”
