Former NBC anchor Brian Williams lost his job for reporting fake news stories, but now he’s blaming President-elect Donald Trump for spreading false stories.
“Fake news played a role in this election and continues to find a wide audience,” Williams told MSNBC during an interview.
Williams specifically pointed a finger at Trump’s national security adviser Michael Flynn for sharing conspiracy theory stories with the public.
“Here are a few: Clinton is involved with child sex trafficking and has ‘secretly waged war’ on the Catholic Church, as well as charges that Obama is a ‘jihadi’ who ‘ laundered money for Muslim terrorists,’” he stated.
Williams seems to have forgotten about the despicable lies he himself told.
Breitbart published a long list of Williams’s lies, which include fabricated stories about his involvement in the Iraq war. For years, Williams told variations of the same story to multiple news sources.
“It was no more than 120 seconds later that the helicopter in front of us was hit,” Williams said during a CNBC interview in March 2005, explaining what supposedly happened when his helicopter was hit in Iraq.
In a 2014 interview, Williams told Politifact: “I’ve done some ridiculously stupid things under that banner, like being in a helicopter I had no business being in Iraq with rounds coming into the airframe.”
However, he later admitted that he fabricated parts of the story.
Clearly, Williams has no right to comment on others who spread fake news stories.
