The executive order, that blunt instrument so beloved by devotees of big government and so feared and loathed by lovers of the Constitution, now stands revealed by WikiLeaks as Democrat presidential nominee Hillary Clinton’s weapon of choice in her war on the Second Amendment.
In an email dated Nov. 4 of last year and released on Friday by WikiLeaks, Clinton press secretary Brian Fallon describes Clinton’s preparations for an upcoming discussion of gun control on NBC’s “Today Show,” including a background briefing for reporters regarding her policy preferences.
Fallon wrote that Clinton, if elected president, would support “universal background checks, of course, but also closing the gun show loophole by executive order and imposing manufacturer liability.”
One effect of those proposals, if they were enacted, would be to prevent private individuals from engaging in firearms transactions without going through the federal background check system now required of licensed gun dealers, according to The Washington Times. Never mind that fewer than 1 percent of prison inmates had purchased guns at gun shows — where most sellers are licensed dealers anyway.
In other words, an executive order closing the mythical “gun show loophole” wouldn’t have the practical effects its advocates claim, but it would afford the left an opportunity to extend federal power outside the Constitution.
Another effect of Clinton’s plan would be that victims of gun crime could sue firearms manufacturers. Not even Clinton’s chief rival for the Democrat nomination, socialist Sen. Bernie Sanders, was willing to go that far.
“If (gun makers) are selling a product to a person who buys it legally, what you’re really talking about is ending gun manufacturing in America,” Sanders said, according to Breitbart. “I don’t agree with that.”
The Fallon email refers to an interview in which Sanders “punts on gun manufacturer liability.”
That’s how far to the left Hillary Clinton is: Her press secretary thought Bernie Sanders was weak on one of the far left’s pet issues.
And what’s worse than the objective is the proposed means of achieving it: a stroke of the pen by an all-powerful chief executive who is no longer accountable to Congress, the people or the Constitution.
What Clinton wants, Clinton takes. That’s the plan. Gun control could be a dress rehearsal for pretty much anything else.
Under these conditions, a vote for Hillary Clinton is a betrayal of national security at its most fundamental level — our freedom from complete domination by our own government.
