FC president Dana White spoke with UFC Unfiltered about former women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey and had some news that might surprise some of her fans.
He said she may be thinking about retiring.
White said he spoke with Rousey recently and said she was doing well.
“She’s good. Her spirits are good. She’s doing her thing. In the conversation that I had with her, if I had to say right here right now, and again I don’t like saying right here, right now because it’s up to her and it’s her thing but I wouldn’t say she fights again,” White said.
“I think she’s probably done. I think she’s going to ride off into the sunset and start living her life outside of fighting.”
White added that Rousey’s career and her record meant everything to her.
“And then once she lost, she started to say to herself, ‘What the **** am I doing? This is my whole life. This is it? I want to experience and start doing other things.’ And I think that’s what she started to do,” he said.
Rousey’s stunning MMA career includes a 12-0 record in her first dozen mixed martial arts bouts, including three knockouts. Rousey also earned a bronze medal in judo at the 2008 Olympics.
However, Rousey’s last two fights ended in brutal losses, which apparently have given the fighter pause to consider her future.
But she never backed down.
Fox News reported that Rousey hasn’t made any statement regarding her fighting career, but asked for time while she reflected on her future.
If she does decide to step aside, many fans will be sad to see her leave fighting, but we wish her the best if she chooses to do so.
