BREAKING: Trump Set to Issue Executive Order on the Border Wall

Trump Set to Issue Executive Order on the Border Wall

President Donald Trump was expected to begin signing a slew of executive orders this week pertaining to immigration.

First up was an order to begin construction on his highly anticipated southern border wall, according to The New York Times, which added that the signing was to occur Wednesday during the president’s appearance at the Department of Homeland Security.

It was expected that the president would move forward with the wall by taking advantage of a 2006 law signed by former President George W. Bush that authorized the government to add 700-plus miles of additional fencing along the U.S. border with Mexico.

“The law was never fully implemented and did not include a sunset provision, allowing Trump to pick up where Bush left off — with the help of new money from Congress,” Politico noted earlier this month.

What remained unclear was how exactly he intended to pay for it. The presumption was that he would use taxpayer funds to begin construction but eventually seek remuneration from Mexico, whose president was to meet with Trump at the White House as early as next week.

The executive orders that President Trump planned to sign extended beyond just the border wall, however. They also covered sanctuary cities and immigration from Muslim countries. Specifically, the orders would crack down on cities that host sanctuary policies and also bar immigration from Muslim-dominant nations until the vetting process could be enhanced.

There was no mention of illegal immigration in the president’s upcoming executive orders, but action will be coming, White House press secretary Sean Spicer told reporters Tuesday.

“I think he’s continuing to make sure that his cabinet level team starts to organize and create a plan to move forward with respect to that issue, and that’s where we are right now,” Spicer said, according to Breitbart..

All in all, President Trump was doing exactly what the American people put him in office to do — get things done. By Wednesday, he had been in office for less than a week but was already well on his way to meeting his campaign promises.
