(WE) Donald Trump scored an endorsement on Monday from a union that represents thousands of Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers, and has never before publicly backed a candidate for elected office.
“Hillary Clinton, who has never met with us, and like President Obama probably never would, created her immigration agenda with the same collection of special interests and open-borders radicals who are responsible for our current immigration disaster — all in the name of cheap labor, greed and votes,” Crane said.
In contrast, the union said Trump contacted Crane to set up a meeting where they discussed the Republican presidential nominee’s “goals for enforcement,” and his pledge “to support ICE officers, our nation’s laws and our members.”
“In his immigration policy, [Trump] has outlined core policies needed to restore immigration security — including support for increased interior enforcement and border security, an end to sanctuary cities, an end to catch-and-release, mandatory detainers, and the canceling of executive amnesty and non-enforcement directives,” Crane said.
Trump has repeatedly promised to build a wall along the southwestern border to be paid for by Mexico, and has also pledged to deport all criminal illegal immigrants currently living in the U.S.
After traveling to Mexico City last month to meet with President Enrique Pena Nieto, Trump said he would not offer a pathway to citizenship to immigrants residing in the U.S. illegally, and would not grant them legal status.
Crane described Trump as the “only candidate who is willing to put politics aside” to fix America’s broken immigration system.
“We hereby endorse Donald J. Trump, and urge all Americans, especially the millions of lawful immigrants living within our country, to support Donald J. Trump, and to protect American jobs, wages and lives,” he said.
