The cousin of a former contestant on “The Apprentice” who claimed that GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump groped her says that he believed she was making the accusation up to get back on reality TV, according to The Hill.
Summer Zervos, a former contestant on the show, held a news conference Friday with attorney Gloria Allred in which she claimed that Trump had groped and kissed her when she went to discuss a business opportunity with the billionaire. However, her cousin John Barry issued a statement through Trump’s presidential campaign saying he believed his cousin’s allegations were false.
“I am completely shocked and bewildered by my cousin, Summer Zervos, and her press conference today. Ever since she was on ‘The Apprentice’ she has had nothing but glowing things to say about Mr. Trump,” Barry’s statement read.
“For almost a decade, my cousin would talk about how much she looked up to Mr. Trump and viewed him as an inspiration — a success story she wanted to copy. Summer would also talk about how kind and caring Mr. Trump was on the show, and how he would even visit children in hospitals without telling the press. She has praised the good things he’s done for her life, and in fact she converted her friends and our family to become Trump supporters even though we’ve never been active in politics before.”
However, he said that her opinion began to change when Trump would not make an appearance at her business.
“Summer invited Mr. Trump to her restaurant during the primary and he said no,” Barry said.
“I think Summer wishes she could still be on reality TV, and in an effort to get that back she’s saying all of these negative things about Mr. Trump. That’s not how she talked about him before. I can only imagine that Summer’s actions today are nothing more than an attempt to regain the spotlight at Mr. Trump’s expense, and I don’t think it reflects well,”
This is pretty damning evidence, particularly since Zergos had supported Trump and invited him to her restaurant after the alleged assault took place. It looks like this is one claim that has officially bitten the dust.
But will the mainstream media report it this way? No, of course not. There will be no pressing for the truth from Gloria Allred (whose position as the Al Sharpton of upper-middle class white women has been even more thoroughly cemented by her role in this debacle), there will be no hand-wringing front-page think pieces from The New York Times on Zergos and her crumbling allegations, and there will certainly be no demand for an apology.
Just another day in liberal media paradise.
