Things have changed for teenage singer Jackie Evancho after she agreed to perform the national anthem at President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration on Jan. 20.
After experiencing a rise in record sales since the announcement, it appeared that the former “America’s Got Talent” contestant is looking at a new recording contract.
Evancho’s publicist Kim Jakwerth told the New York Post‘s Page Six that doors were opening for the 16-year-old singer, and news about a contract could be announced soon.
“Three record labels were suddenly courting her,” Jakwerth said. “The contract could be announced next week.”
Evancho’s album went to No. 1 on the Billboard Classical Chart, and the weekly album sales quadrupled in digital downloads after it was announced that she would perform at Trump’s inauguration, Page Six reported.
Evancho, a classical and pop music singer, had a deal with Sony Music for her album “Someday at Christmas,” but that was a one-off, Jakwerth said. The singer was a free agent, and it looks like a popular one.
Evancho became an overnight sensation in 2010 on “America’s Got Talent” when she was singing complex opera classics at just 10 years old.
Things haven’t all been good since Evancho announced she would sing for Trump’s inauguration. She has also felt the wrath of the anti-Trump crowd, which has posted “horrible cruel things” online about the young singer, Jakwerth said.
Jakwerth added that the inauguration performance doesn’t mean that Evancho, who also performed for President Barack Obama twice, was a Trump supporter.
“She’s doing it for her country,” Jakwerth said. “She’s 16. She can’t vote. It’s an offer that came to her, and she’s excited.”
We’re excited for her, too, and can’t wait to see her perform.
