BREAKING: Rep. Dana Rohrabacher Announces He’s On Trump’s List Of Sec. Of State Candidates

President-elect Donald Trump has seasoned politicians from coast to coast vying for a chance to make America great again.

California Rep. Dana Rohrabacher said Friday that he was on Trump’s list of potential picks for secretary of state, according to a report from The Hill.

“I have been told that I am under consideration to join President Trump’s team as secretary of state,” he said in an email sent to supporters and paid for by his congressional campaign. “While my present intention, of course, is to continue to fight for liberty and freedom as a member of the House of Representatives, as a strong supporter of President-elect Trump’s vision for America, it would be a privilege and an honor to serve as his secretary of state.”

Rohrabacher also made the announcement on his Facebook page:

The Republican congressman’s name appeared Friday in a Breitbart poll, where his name was placed strategically first, leading to speculation about his consideration.

Rohrabacher has not been mentioned by anyone on the Trump team as a potential nominee to head up the State Department.

An early Trump supporter, Rohrabacher has been controversial for his stance toward Russia in general and Vladimir Putin in particular. Legislators on both sides of aisle have expressed concern that he has been a little too cozy with the Russians. A recent Politico article referred to him as “Putin’s Favorite Congressman.”

Formerly a staunch anti-Russian, he has more recently voiced pro-Putin sentiments. He personally lobbied for a change in U.S. policy toward murdered Russian lawyer Sergei Magnitsky, a whistle-blowing attorney who allegedly uncovered evidence of a $230 million theft by Putin regime officials.

The slain tax attorney was the basis for a 2012 law commonly called the Magnitsky Act, which formally reprimanded Russia over its human rights record, according to The Washington Post.

Rohrabacher, a congressman since 1989, worked previously as an assistant press secretary and speech writer for President Ronald Reagan. He is chair of the House Foreign Affairs subcommittee for Europe, Eurasia and Emerging Threats.
