As the parade of guests continues in and out of Trump Tower, each participant potentially interviewing for a role with the incoming administration, one particular face that is fairly well-known to most Fox News viewers has been spotted a couple of times and has sparked speculation.
Guilfoyle has already had two meetings with members of the transition team and was slated for a third meeting at some point this week.
Aside from being an outspoken supporter of Trump throughout his campaign, Guilfoyle has reportedly been quite friendly with Trump’s daughter Ivanka and her husband, Jared Kushner. She also has a good relationship with chief strategist Steve Bannon, former deputy campaign manager David Bossie, and finance team adviser Anthony Scaramucci, also a Fox alumnus.
Guilfoyle apparently has at least one fan inside the transition team who has cited the fact that her being a woman of Hispanic origin may prove valuable to Trump’s efforts to reach the media and the American people regarding some of the more divisive issues Trump is likely to tackle.
“Do you want a white male representing the White House when half the country thinks the president is a misogynist?” asked the anonymous source rhetorically. “Who do you want talking about immigration? A Latino. When you have to make decisions about pro-life justices, do you want a man or a woman?”
While Trump and his team certainly aren’t known for embracing the same sort of identity politics as the left (and generally speaking shouldn’t be encouraged to do so), Hot Air nevertheless agreed with the line of reasoning for why Guilfoyle should be considered for the position, suggesting that a public position like press secretary would be an acceptable opportunity to exploit the natural weakness of the left.
The fact that she once served as assistant district attorney in San Francisco certainly didn’t hurt, either.
However, while Guilfoyle may be in the running for the role, it was not thought that she was at the top of the list of potential press secretaries, according to the Washington Examiner, who reported that that honor went to soon-to-be-former Republican National Committee Communications Director Sean Spicer.
Other people in the running for the open slot included conservative pundit and radio host Laura Ingraham, campaign spokeswoman Katrina Pierson, and even campaign manager Kellyanne Conway, though she has reportedly expressed little interest in the job.
That said, a source on the Trump team dismissed the notion that she was even under consideration for the job, so it remained to be seen what may come of these reports.
It is expected that Trump will announce his selection by the end of the week.
