It’s the meeting that just won’t go away: Bill Clinton’s tarmac summit with then-Attorney General Loretta Lynch during the height of the Hillary Clinton email server investigation. Lynch may be out of power and Hillary never even got in, but that hasn’t stopped one watchdog group from pursuing the truth.
On Wednesday, the conservative group Judicial Watch announced it was filing a lawsuit in the United States Court for the District of Columbia seeking to obtain transcripts and records pertaining to the June 2016 meeting.
“The infamous tarmac meeting between President Clinton and AG Lynch is a vivid example of why many Americans believe the Obama administration’s criminal investigation into Hillary Clinton was rigged,” Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton said in a statement announcing the lawsuit.
“Now it will be up to Attorney General Sessions at the Trump Justice Department to finally shed some light on this subversion of justice,” he added.
According to the Washington Free Beacon, the group had originally asked for transcripts of the meeting or any other related documents in a June 2016 Freedom of Information Act request. However, government officials did not state whether they would accept or deny the FOIA request in the space of time allowed under the law.
The Free Beacon reported that, in addition to transcripts and records, Judicial Watch was seeking “records of communication sent to or from officials in the Office of the Attorney General regarding the meeting, communication sent to or from officials in the office of the deputy attorney general, and any references to the meeting contained in day planners, calendars and schedules in the office of the attorney general.”
The tarmac meeting, which occurred as both Lynch and Clinton were at Phoenix’s Sky Harbor International Airport, became a sort of symbol for the Clinton campaign. It looked awful, but everyone involved swore that nothing untoward had happened.
Surprise of surprises, the media went along with that narrative, just like they’ve always done for Clinton and her husband. In fact, if Bill Clinton had the forethought to insist a certain blue dress got sent for dry cleaning, the media would have made sure Monica Lewinsky was remembered as an unstable flibbertigibbet with romantic delusions.
Thankfully, Judicial Watch is on the job. And, if they have anything to say about it, Bill Clinton and Loretta Lynch are going to be held to account.
