Only hours after Cook County State’s Attorney Anita Alvarez, a Hispanic woman, opted to not file charges against a Chicago cop for the fatal shooting of armed thug Ronald Johnson, President Barack Obama’s Department of Justice decided to launch an investigation into the entire Chicago Police Department.
The investigation into alleged patterns of racial disparity in the use of force will be led by the DOJ’s Civil Rights Division, The Washington Times reported.
“We understand that the same systems that fail community members also fail conscientious officers by creating mistrust between law enforcement and the citizens they are sworn to serve and protect,” Attorney General Loretta Lynch announced. “And when suspicion and hostility is allowed to fester, it can erupt into unrest.”
The primary trigger for this investigation was reportedly not Johnson’s death, but rather the shooting death of Laquan McDonald, whom former Chicago cop Jason Van Dyke reportedly shot 16 times with little justification in October of 2014.
However, Alvarez chose to charge Van Dyke with first-degree murder, so justice is being served in that case. Likewise, Alvarez went the other way with Johnson’s case because evidence showed that he had been in possession of a firearm and had refused to drop it when authorities tried to apprehend him.
Van Dyke was an anomaly and therefore not representative of most Chicago police officers.
Lynch, on the other hand, is quite representative of Barack Obama and everything for which he stands — namely racial animus, grievance mongering and the insertion of the federal government into local issues at every opportunity.
