Since becoming the President-elect, Donald Trump has had to deal with death threats from people who just couldn’t accept that he won the election or that his brand of politics appealed to millions of Americans.
These oh-so-tolerant folks have been spewing hatred at Trump for a long time now, but what they may not have realized is that the Secret Service has been watching them closely. Zachary Benson found that out the hard way, the Cleveland Plain Dealer reported.
Benson, who hails from Cleveland, was watching the election results, and after most media outlets projected that Trump would be the winner he decided to tweet out a death threat to the president-elect.
Probably not his smartest move.
“My life goal is to assassinate Trump. Don’t care if I serve infinite sentences. That man deserves to decease (sic) existing,” he wrote in one tweet, which has since been deleted.
“Diplomacy. F—ing fools. I hate you all. I want to bomb every one of your voting booths and your general areas,” he wrote in another now-deleted tweet.
Benson claimed that he had had a few drinks with his father before going home and watching the election results. When interviewed he said that he knew the tweets were a mistake and deleted them the next morning.
By then it was too late because the Secret Service already had been made aware of them.
For once, a component of the federal government was wonderfully efficient.
Benson appeared in court on Monday where he was charged with “making threats to a successor to the presidency.”
Benson claimed that he isn’t a violent person and that he would never act on his tweets, but that doesn’t really matter. Making a death threat against a president, or a president-elect, is still a crime.
It’s good to know that the Secret Service is monitoring these death threats and is taking appropriate action against the people who have made them. Now if only the liberal media would bother to cover these sorts of stories.
