Donald Trump will be our 45th president, and over the next four years, he has some important moves to make with the U.S. Supreme Court.
Trump has one place to fill immediately, replacing recently deceased Justice Scalia’s seat. Dems are doing everything they can to block a nominee, but Trump may be considering some bold moves moving forward.
The Washington Examiner is reporting:
Incoming Democratic leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., is known for playing hardball so President-elect Donald Trump and Senate Republicans now have to carefully plot their next move in the high-stakes game of filling the critical lifetime post.
This week after the election, Washington is filled with talk that McConnell could up the ante on Democrats and go “nuclear,” changing Senate rules to require a simple majority instead of 60 votes to end a filibuster of a president’s high court pick.
The Examiner article continues to suggest Republicans “turn the table on dems on filibuster rules,” and further suggests Trump may want to nominate Ted Cruz for the Supreme Court seat.
Yes, THAT Ted Cruz.
Washington Examiner continues:
Cruz, who has argued cases before the Supreme Court and clerked for William Rehnquist, is young, healthy and just as rock-ribbed conservative as Scalia.
A Cruz selection has the added advantage of playing upon Senate Democratic desires not to be forced to see have to deal with him on Capitol Hill.
