Maybe former President Bill Clinton should consider going into comedy, because something he said this week is about as funny as it gets.
Clinton was the keynote speaker at an event at the Brookings Institution honoring Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin. In this middle of his speech, Clinton said, “We have to find a way to bring simple, personal decency and trust back to our politics.”
Yes, he actually said that. It’s amazing the crowd didn’t erupt in laughter because a plea for decency and trust coming from Bill Clinton is hilarious.
Take a look:
This makes you wonder if Clinton actually pays attention to what he’s saying, because it’s as if he’s living in an alternate universe where words have no significance.
Looking back, it would seem that words have never meant much to the former president — except for how he could abuse them to mislead his country in the course of a long, successful career.
The former president is many things, but one thing is certain — he is no bastion of decency or trust.
For those too young to remember, Clinton had an affair with White House intern Monica Lewinsky and then lied about it — under oath. Then we have Juanita Broaddrick, Kathleen Willey and Jennifer Flowers, who have alleged that he former president sexually assaulted them.
This comment, while it is funny in a sick kind of way, represents the character of the Clintons — both Bill and Hillary. Bill Clinton has no problem telling the public what to do, but would never hold himself to the same standards. The same goes for his wife. They have more scandals in their collective past than most people can keep up with.
They both need to do America a favor and retire.
