As student late-work excuses go, this beats “the dog ate my homework.”
The Independent Journal Review reported in an exclusive story that a Colorado State University student was too traumatized by the Nov. 8 election results to bother with schoolwork. His professor’s response was probably not what he expected.
The message stated: “The election of the most evil hateful person to ever run for president has me very upset and I need time to process it all and get centered,” the Independent Journal Review reported. There was more, of course.
For your amusement, here is the message:
The student was promptly schooled in how the real world works by the professor’s brief response — an excerpt from the school’s late work policy.
“In accordance with the grading rubric, late posts will not be awarded full points.” In other words: Suck it up, buttercup.
The professor’s comments to Independent Journal Review reflected her insight into the disturbing trend of spoiled, entitled students and the professors who coddle them.
“Students need to realize that we live in a republic where majority rules. That means that the person you voted for doesn’t always win, but you have to just deal with it. Colleges and professors who baby their students because they’re upset over the election are not doing them any favors. Throwing a tantrum or becoming a basket case when life doesn’t go your way is not how adults behave,” she said.
The professor also commented on how these students will fare in the real world. You know, the one after graduation where you have to get a job and show up on time.
“I can’t imagine what these students will do once they enter the workforce and have a difficult boss or a challenging project, or have personal setbacks. We are raising a generation of crybabies who can’t handle life, and if they don’t get it together I’m very worried for the future of this country.”
