All that Rep. Peter King wants is the truth, but the Central Intelligence Agency won’t share.

Reports of alleged attempts by Russian hackers, purportedly aimed at disrupting the 2016 presidential election, don’t pass the smell test, according to King. His House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, which has direct oversight over the CIA, has summoned he agency to explain its actions before Congress.

The problem? The CIA won’t come. Seriously.

King has been complaining for weeks about the CIA’s handling of intelligence regarding the matter, saying the CIA simply wasn’t being transparent to its own bosses about what it knows, King told Fox News. Here’s the video:

The Washington Post reported earlier this month that the intelligence community — that’s 17 agencies, by the way– had reached a “consensus” that Russia hacked the 2016 election, citing a “secret CIA assessment.”

The Federal Bureau of Investigation was quick to distance itself from that statement, reported The Washington Times. Finally, Rep. Devin Nunes, head of the committee, called a closed-door briefing for heads of the CIA, FBI, the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, and the National Security Agency.

The party had to be cancelled because everyone sent regrets.

“This violates all protocol. It’s almost as if people in the intelligence community are carrying out a disinformation campaign against the president-elect of the United States,” King argued.

King maintained that the committee was previously informed that there was no consensus and no legitimate proof, and that they had not received needed specifics from groups within the CIA who purported that Russia hacked released WikiLeaks emails.

The CIA is full of dedicated men and women who work for the good of our country, not against it. But one of their duties is showing up when called by their governing body, and they have refused.

The CIA isn’t doing itself any favors by not talking. We suspect some heads are going to roll come Jan. 20 … and they probably should.
