Seven-year-old Hayley McGregor got the best surprise a little girl could ask for when she was performing with her cheerleading squad — she heard her father’s name. Her father, a naval officer, had been serving in Afghanistan for seven months.
Haley had just performed during halftime at the homecoming game at Morro Bay High School in Morro Bay, California, when she heard that familiar name. As expected, she was a bit confused but also filled with joy.
The little girl ran to her mother, who then pointed to her father, who had slipped onto the field to watch her perform.
Needless to say, she couldn’t run to her father fast enough, and once she reached him, she couldn’t stop hugging him. It a sweet reunion that would make even the grinch smile.
Returning soldiers often find ways to surprise their loved ones, and the joy is infectious, but videos like this one also reveal the void a family feels when daddy serves overseas.
As we have just honored the veterans who have served our country, this video is a reminder of the sacrifice those serving our country make.
While this video has been around for a couple of years, it spreads a kind of joy that never gets old.
Watch the video below — but have a box of tissues handy.
